Katowice, 24-28 September 2014
The organization of the 1st Karol Szymanowski International String Quartet Competition in Katowice lays within a broader realm of activity of the Society. Its purpose is to focus any artistic activity connected to the composer around the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice as well as to recognize Katowice as a City of Music inseparably tied to the great Polish composer.
The artistic director is Arkadiusz Kubica, a Member of the Board of the Society and a violinist of the Silezian Quartet, who invited representatives of renowned European ensembles (Artis Quartet Vienna, Artemis Quartet Berlin, Apollon Musagete Quartet, Karol Szymanowski Quartet Hanover) to be on the jury.
The Competition received Honorary Patronage by the Department of Culture and National Heritage, the Marshal of the Parliament of Silezia, Mirosław Sekuła and the President of the City of Katowice, Piotr Uszok.
